I'm ashamed to say that, despite the fact that we have previously tested a number of products from the Honor Magic series in some depth, if we were to describe the appearance of this flagship's impression in one word, it would be difficult to find a more appropriate word.
But when we got the Honor Magic6 series, the answer suddenly came to our mind: rounded.
Better hovering streamline quad-curved screen
The rounded feeling of course comes from Honor's full polishing of the curves, especially on the front.
Honestly, the Honor Magic6 Pro is not the first flagship to present a quad-curved look and feel (two generations of products before it already were), but the rounded look and feel it brings is really different. The choices it made on the four R corners are surprising, being a much more rounded design, but Honor handled it with skill, with smooth and harmonious transitions, resulting in a rounded look that pays homage to the first generation of Magic. But honestly, I myself subjectively prefer the standard version of the "fully symmetrical isometric micro-curved screen", I wonder how you will choose?
The comprehensive configuration of the screen is also quite good, such as 2800 × 1280 resolution, 1Hz ~ 120Hz intelligent dynamic refresh rate, 5000nits of local peak brightness and 1600nits of global maximum brightness, the latter two brightness configuration can be said to be quite exaggerated.
More exaggerated is also in its eye protection configuration. The previous PWM dimming frequency record was originally set by Honor's own 90 series at 3840Hz, and in the Honor Magic6 series, the record was once again broken to 4320Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, combined with sleep display and natural light eye protection, eye protection effect is really quite outstanding.
Such a good screen not only curve transition rounded, but also equipped with a new Honor giant rhinoceros glass, based on the second generation of nano-microcrystalline glass technology to create, according to the official statement, its overall resistance to fall increased by 30%, and through the Swiss SGS multi-scene gold standard five-star resistance to fall and drop test, obviously, this is also a trusted generation of new Magic flagship.
More exquisite body appearance
Seems to echo the front design, Honor Magic6 Pro in the back cover in fact also in the body of the upper and lower ends of the body to do some curved transition, if the left and right sides of the curve can also do more close to the front of the micro-curve strip, the effect may also be better - but this set of left and right curved back cover, but also bring a more comfortable grip. However, the current large curved back cover on the left and right brings a more comfortable grip, so it's not a bad choice.
The version we received is Qilian Snow color, according to the Honor official statement, this color draws on the Qilian Mountain snow mountain elements, it is not difficult to see, it is really quite pure white, very snow mountain feeling; white, there are some silver-gray irregular lines, but also let it interpret the continuous snow mountain view, combined with the silver image module decorative surface, the value is still relatively good.
Honor Magic6 Pro's back cover is also the most interesting number of this triple camera rear image module, triple camera plus flash and sensors on both sides of the surprisingly symmetrical and stand, and under the constraints of the pillow-shaped elements, the entire module is not too exaggerated bulge, but also in the low-key in the highlighting of its image flagship status.
Unique image understanding
Regarding imaging hardware, the choice of Honor Magic6 Pro is actually a bit different from the mainstream. The first is the main camera, which is equipped with a customized OV H9000 sensor, which achieves a very large upgrade in dynamic range and HDR capability, and with it is an intelligent variable aperture design of F1.4~F2.0, which allows the user to choose whether to have a higher amount of light intake or a clearer front and back view. On the other hand, it also comes with a unique 180-megapixel sensor for its periscope telephoto lens, which is a very dramatic upgrade in zoom capability from optical to digital.
Let's take a look at the actual sample photos. Honor Magic6 Pro is still very good use of the main camera on the OV custom H9000 the advantages of this sensor, the polishing of the image quality presents a familiar "Honor style", detailed but not overly sharpened, very high dynamic range allows it to present a relatively rich picture details, the overall perception is still quite good! The overall view is still quite good.
Honor Magic6 Pro's telephoto configuration is also exaggerated, on the one hand, 180 million pixels of large bottom sensor, on the other hand, came to the F2.6 large aperture. When such a sensor that might be used as a main camera in other models comes to the periscope telephoto, it naturally brings more ways to play with it. Whether it's at the default 68mm equivalent focal length, or at the 5x 135mm equivalent focal length, it can render pretty good picture details, and it can even take macro photos, making this fixed focal length lens interpret the varied joys of a zoomable zoom as well.
As for the ultra-wide-angle part, Honor Magic6 Pro also uses a 50-megapixel sensor, which is not much of a surprise, and still has the familiar good image quality.
In addition, thanks to the new three different styles, we are also very pleased to see the Honor Magic6 Pro on their new understanding of the image style. The same photo can show a different flavor in different styles, with a distinctive and good-looking style for everyday shooting, and a textured style for recording when encountering special moments, so that the photo highlights the feeling of age and makes taking photos more interesting.
In addition, also thanks to the Honor Magic6 Pro equipped with this new OV custom H9000 sensor, it can also realize the whole link from the preview to the film to the album display HDR effect, known as the "Android platform's strongest HDR video capabilities", from the photo to the video, have done a good level.
Qinghai Lake battery upgrade
In the previous generation of Honor Magic series, we have seen the large capacity of the Qinghai Lake battery, and this time in the Magic6 series, Honor has brought the second generation of the Qinghai Lake battery, with a capacity of 5600mAh, which makes the battery capacity of the Honor Magic6 Pro still tops the flagship market. With the self-developed energy efficiency enhancement chip and Dujiangyan power management system, as well as the third-generation Snapdragon 8 flagship platform with a substantial upgrade in energy efficiency, theoretically, the endurance of Honor Magic6 Pro can be even better.
So how does it stack up in the real world? We also used the customary three test scenarios to test its battery life, in the video playback and social media browsing scenarios, the Honor Magic6 Pro's play is similar to the past, the power consumption is very low, are only 6% of the power consumption; in the original God of the Sumeru city running map of the high-intensity use of scenarios, it is also quite good to control the power consumption, and ultimately only 22% of the power consumption, this is a good performance. The battery life performance is still quite good.
As for charging, Honor Magic6 Pro wired fast charging configuration is relatively conventional, 80W fast charging; but it supports 66W wireless fast charging, like the previous Honor 100 Pro. can do so before the implementation of the new temporary provisions of the preparation, the Honor in the wireless charging is still relatively surprising.
Communication, performance of the comprehensive upgrade
The comprehensive strength of the Honor Magic6 Pro is still quite good. In addition to the screen, image and battery life talked about earlier, it also has a good configuration in terms of communication and performance. Performance, of course, needless to say, the performance of the third-generation Snapdragon 8 flagship platform has now been widely recognized in the market, and the strong performance cap allows the Honor Magic6 series to easily cope with a variety of performance challenges, while also achieving a relatively high energy consumption ratio.
At the same time, Honor's excellent signal is also reflected in this top flagship, especially the new self-developed RF enhancement chip HONOR C1+ added to improve the call experience in a weak network environment, combined with the excellent performance of the previous C1 chip, I believe that its performance can also be satisfied.
In addition, Honor Magic6 Pro also brought "Honor Hongyan communication" technology, it is said that they improved the underlying technology and chip packaging process, so that the overall area of the satellite chip to achieve a 40% reduction, and there are also a number of self-research core technology to improve its power consumption and heat dissipation performance.
After connecting to the Tiantong satellite, the satellite communication functions supported by the Honor Magic6 Pro are also quite comprehensive, including real-time voice and two-way SMS, and the call duration has been extended from the previous 5 minutes to the operator's 2-hour limit, allowing users to have more adequate communication time when they encounter emergencies.
When sending satellite SMS, you can also quickly add your current address; after the other party receives the message, you can also click on the link to directly locate the user, for users who have lost the ground signal to interrupt the contact, this function is obviously able to bring more hope. It can be seen that Honor does have its own deep technical accumulation, in order to so quickly in the field of satellite communications to keep up with the mainstream and even realize the lead.
MagicOS 8.0 brings more convenient experience
Honor Magic6 series is also equipped with the latest MagicOS 8.0, this new system is actually worth a separate review, and if I say that in this new series of machines it has brought me the most impressive, I think it should be the personal affairs center and any door of the two functions.
Let's start with the Personal Affairs Center. Most calendar apps have built-in scheduling functionality, and the Personal Center in MagicOS 8.0 is a new way to integrate multiple functions within the system. For example, when you receive a text message, you can tap on the time information to quickly create a daily schedule and reminders, and you can even show your next schedule in the YOYO suggestions. YOYO suggestions to show the next schedule to be executed.
Of course, this kind of adding schedules is not particularly interesting, and what really makes it more practical is another better feature - the arbitrary door. This function integrates more in-camera recognition algorithms, just long press, drag and drop, Honor Magic6 Pro can be recognized in-camera, such as recognizing the text content in the picture, and enter it into the corresponding information column, so as to make this efficiency tool more convenient.
In addition, Honor MagicOS 8.0 also has a lot of new highlights, such as smart table, magic lock screen, new game assistant, full-screen holographic display and dynamic capsule, etc. The new Variety desktop is even in the layout, animation and design of the level of the realization of the new, the experience of the entire system has reached a very good level.
Summary
It's easy to see that the Honor Magic series is reforming its own style. From its appearance, to the hardware of imaging, performance and screen, to the new MagicOS 8.0, everything is presenting a new experience, which seems to be leading us to form a new perception of it - it seems to be younger, livelier and more dynamic.
This impression also reminds me of the technology feeling when the first generation of Magic was released, new but not sharp, this kind of rounded look and feel, in this new era, but more emphasize its unique temperament. I believe that the Honor Magic6 series will be a good start for Honor in 2024, and will bring users more surprising experiences.
