Although today's glasses don't work directly as a mobile phone like in sci-fi movies, it is already possible to integrate some of the functions. For example, by putting audio into the glasses, it is simply a pair of glasses that can be used as a Bluetooth headset.
The product is simple and easy to use. After two days of use, I would like to briefly talk about some of my experiences.
Packaging and design
This product comes with a variety of frame options, the one I got is the round full frame model, which has a wider frame and is a more mainstream model today.
The legs of the headset are plated, the advantage of which is that they have a metallic shine, but the disadvantage is that they are very fingerprint-prone and can only be wiped off frequently.
The packaging is in the classic white minimalist style and includes a charging cable, glasses cloth, glasses case and a manual.
Control and software adaptation
The decorative strips on the sides of the glasses are both decorative and control areas. The left swipe is for song cutting and the right swipe is for volume.
These basic functions are good to experience, and the decorative strips are raised, making it easy to locate the area with your fingers.
The software adaptation of the Mi Smart Audio Glasses is well done. A separate 'Xiaomi Glasses' app is available for non-Xiaomi phones to connect and control, and Xiaomi phones also have a connection pop-up.
It's actually similar to Bluetooth headset pairing. Once connected, the wearer can automatically complete the connection, and can also switch between the two phones.
Sound quality and wearing experience
The nosepiece is quite necessary to wear, as it provides a firm support. I felt that the temples on both sides were relatively tight, so that for a long, thin face, they stuck firmly in place and the weight was distributed more to the sides of the cheeks, making it easier on the ears.
For everyday use indoors, the volume at 20% is perfectly adequate and no one can hear me within 1m. If I put it at 40%, I'll be very high and others within 1 metre will be able to hear the lyrics of my music perfectly.
When I go outside, I have to put it at least at 35% to be able to hear clearly, and for safety reasons it is best not to go above 50%.
The sound quality is much better than a lot of bone conduction, the immersion is quite good and there is some bass.
Charging and battery life experience
I calculated that on average, it consumes about 35% of the power for a normal day's use, which is about three days on a charge. It needs to be charged at least 3 times a week. The magnetic charging method is the mainstream at the moment, but the operation is slightly cumbersome.
The mirror leg supports a charging rate of 5V1A, and the breathing light on the charger is also low in brightness, both for charging correctly and for watching the charging progress, so there is clearly room for improvement in this charging experience.
A bit of griping and room for improvement
Firstly, the packaging.
I saw a lot of people online complaining that the packaging was too different from the press box and that the product didn't feel premium. I also feel that the packaging is too plain. The good thing is that you can tell it is a Xiaomi product at a glance, but the box feels very thin and does not highlight the value of the product.
Secondly, the charging experience.
Although it charges three times a week, it is still a near-high frequency charging product. Each time you charge it, you need to align the two magnetic ports, and the depth of the magnetic port is limited, so it is easy to fall off, although the mirror leg can be removed separately, but it still invariably increases the cost of operation.
In conclusion and purchase advice
I think such smart glasses are more practical than those smart AR glasses that do not do well with the experience at the moment.
It does integrate two pieces of functionality into one, and for the glasses crowd like myself, it's an everyday necessity - after all, its main attribute is a pair of glasses.
Nothing is difficult to get started, and this two-in-one approach reduces the probability of losing the headphones and saves the tedium of connection pairing.
These days, opticians can charge a lot for a good quality frame with plates, so this headset becomes even more valuable.
