Redmi Buds 6 Review

I. Foreword: Redmi's first headphones with dual sound generators

The Redmi Buds 6 comes with the same coil-ceramic coaxial dual-unit architecture as the Buds 5 Pro, combining a 12.4mm oversized titanium-plated diaphragm moving coil unit and a 5.5mm micro-piezoelectric ceramic unit to deliver flagship-grade sound quality performance. Thanks to this dual-unit design, the headphones are able to cover the full range of high, medium, and low frequencies, presenting a natural, expansive sound experience.

In terms of noise cancellation, Redmi Buds 6 has also been significantly improved, supporting an active noise reduction depth of up to 49dB. This is Redmi's most excellent noise reduction in-ear headset to date, which can effectively isolate external noise and meet the user's needs in a variety of scenarios. Whether in noisy city streets or on high speed trains, airplanes and other means of transportation, users can enjoy a peaceful listening environment.

The battery life of Redmi Buds 6 has also been improved, with the overall battery life increasing from 40 hours to 42 hours from its predecessor, providing users with a longer-lasting experience.

The charging case of Redmi Buds 6 adopts the streamlined “lightweight cloud” design concept, giving the product a light and elegant appearance, as if it were a soft-touch cloud.

The surface of the charging case cleverly combines both glossy and frosted finishes, which not only creates a stark contrast visually, but also brings richness to the sense of touch.

III, the sound quality and noise reduction: dual-unit design bass surging powerful 49dB noise reduction car roar significantly reduced

In-ear headphones are naturally equipped with noise-canceling features, and this feeling is very obvious when listening to some pure music.

--Sound quality test

Redmi Buds 6 Review

Sound quality performance, 12.4mm large titanium-plated diaphragm moving coil unit listening to daily pop music is still very feel.

We first auditioned the rhythmic “Sixth Sense” music, and Redmi Buds6 paid special attention to capturing the unique rhythmic sense of each instrument, making the presentation of the whole song clearer and more organized.

The headphones also excelled in the presentation of the music's layering. The gradient of volume is handled appropriately, and the boundaries between the main theme and the background music are clearly recognizable, maintaining the harmony and unity of the music.

In the high-frequency section, the Redmi Buds6's performance is very pure, with no obvious acoustic flaws. Whether it's the lilt of a violin or the crispness of a piano, it accurately captures and reproduces the subtleties of these high-frequency instruments.

When enjoying “The Ferry”, the first three drum hits were crisp and clear, and the vocal part of the headphones accurately captured the singer's unique voice and emotional expression, presenting the pronunciation of each word in a clear and recognizable way.

The vocals are not only well balanced with the instrumental accompaniment, but also seem natural and unobtrusive, allowing the listener to feel the emotion and story conveyed in the song more deeply.

This precise presentation of vocal details further proves the Redmi Buds6's high level of vocal reproduction.

--Noise Reduction Test

Redmi Buds6 headphones are equipped with three noise reduction modes, light mode, balanced mode and deep mode, supporting up to 49dB deep noise reduction, which can adapt to a wide range of occasions, from the relaxing atmosphere of a cafe to the peaceful environment of a park, to the focused work in an office, and the quiet study in a library, to meet the noise reduction needs of different users in different environments.

In this regard, we test the headset's noise-canceling ability through three different scenarios.

Redmi Buds 6 Review

In an indoor environment with a background noise level of about 56.7dB, we turned on the Redmi Buds 6's mild noise cancellation, which significantly reduces the interference of high-frequency noise triggered by hitting the mechanical keyboard in the office environment.

In the face of persistent low-frequency noises prevalent in office areas, such as the low chirp of a computer fan, the rotation of an electric fan, or the vibration of an air-conditioning unit, we were able to reduce the noise by roughly 70% using Deep Noise Reduction, and the sound of a mechanical keyboard being struck was reduced by a large portion.

At the same time, while providing users with a quieter working environment, Redmi Buds 6S also avoids causing ear pressure discomfort and ensures a comfortable experience even when worn for long periods of time.

Therefore, we can choose the depth of noise reduction that suits us according to our office environment, and I personally recommend the light noise reduction even more.

When we are outdoors or in an area near a window, we can clearly hear the sound of a car driving by, at which point the ambient noise level rises to 66.4dB.

With the Redmi Buds6's Deep Noise Cancellation feature turned on, the headphones significantly reduced the noise generated by the tires rubbing against the road. While the shrill horn sound still penetrated the noise-canceling barrier, its intensity was significantly reduced from when noise-canceling was not turned on.

This noise cancellation significantly reduces the interference of ambient noise, providing a more peaceful listening experience.

During our outdoor test, we found that the noise level near a busy road soared to 76.3dB, with the roar of a car engine, the sound of tires rubbing against the ground, and ear-piercing horns intertwined to create a great deal of noise interference.

When we activated the Redmi Buds 6 headphones' Deep Noise Cancellation mode, these low-frequency noises were significantly reduced by about half. Meanwhile, for high-frequency car horn sounds, the noise reduction effect was also very noticeable, although not completely eliminated, resulting in a substantial reduction in overall noise levels.

Such noise reduction significantly improves the user's listening experience, even in noisy outdoor environments, you can enjoy a more peaceful and comfortable listening space.

IV . Charging and battery life: half an hour or so of full power in exchange for nearly 13 hours of strong battery life

Redmi Buds 6 built-in official claims headphones with charging compartment for a total duration of 42 hours, we did a test of the charging and battery life of the headphones.

--Charging Test

Redmi Buds 6 Review

At 3 o'clock, the power of both the left and right ears was 60%, and the two headphones were put into the charging compartment, and in 5 minutes the power of the left ear was charged to 75%, the power of the right ear was charged to 80%, and the power of both the left and right ears was charged to 90%.

It can be deduced that the headphones charge at an average of about 3% per minute, and it takes about 34 minutes to go from no power to full power, which is just over half an hour to bring the headphones back to life.

This charging speed, in the morning after waking up to find that the headset is not enough power, just take advantage of the time to wash and eat breakfast to charge, before going out of the headset will have enough power to support the user in the commute or outdoor activities.

--Battery life test

Redmi Buds 6 Review

We will adjust the volume of the headset to about 20% of the volume, and turn off the noise reduction function, turn off the spatial audio function, wear the headset to listen to music for 1 hour, at this time, the left ear of the power consumption of 10%, the right ear of the power consumption of 5%, an average of one hour of the headset consumes 7.5% of the power, which can be deduced from the headset full power use length of about 13 hours or so.

V. Summary: Redmi's most cost-effective in-ear headphones

Redmi Buds 6, as a commemorative work for the 10th anniversary of the Redmi brand, not only continues the cost-effective advantages of its predecessor, but also brings a leap forward with comprehensive upgrades in key features such as sound quality, noise cancellation and battery life.

First of all, Redmi Buds 6 adopts a dual-structure design of 12.4mm oversized titanium-plated diaphragm dynamic coil unit and 5.5mm micro piezo ceramic unit. This combination breaks through the limitations of headphones in the same price range in terms of sound quality performance, making the high, medium and low frequencies more balanced. In the actual test, the bass performance is deep and elastic, whether it is strong rhythmic electronic music or emotional jazz, Redmi Buds 6 can accurately convey the connotation of the music. The high-frequency performance is also excellent, with clear and pure instrumental tones and rich details, bringing more delicate listening enjoyment.

In terms of noise reduction, Redmi Buds 6 also performs well. Even when you're on a noisy street, the headphones still significantly cut down on ambient noise such as engine sounds and traffic noise. For its price point, such noise-canceling capability is a standout. While it can't match the noise-canceling performance of high-end in-ear headphones, the Redmi Buds 6 is more than adequate for daily office, commuting or reading scenarios, exceeding most users' expectations.

Redmi Buds 6 Review

Overall, the Redmi Buds 6 is a great value for money true wireless headphone.

Whether it's the sound quality, noise cancellation, or battery life performance, it shows its value beyond its asking price. The Redmi Buds 6 is undoubtedly a recommended choice for those looking for an excellent sound quality experience in an affordable price range.
